Looking back September 21, 1972 (when Martial Law was officially declared by Former president Ferdinand Marcos)-- As we can remember, the Aquinos and the Marcoses really came into a huge rivalry because of the so-called suppression of freedom as being interpreted by former Philippine senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino. Even before Ferdinand Marcos became president of the Republic of the Philippines,
he had been the leader of Ang Maharlika, a guerrilla force in northern Luzon, particularly in Ilocos Norte. He was born, raised and first ran into a political position also at Ilocos Norte.
From this brief pieces of information alone, we can clearly conclude that the Northern Luzon is most probably a Marcos region. BUT, more than 20 years after the People Power Revolution, today, Presidential candidate, Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino visited the so-called "Marcos Region" as a part of his nationwide motorcade for the upcoming 2010 Presidential Elections.
But the big question is, were the Aquinos properly welcomed by the Ilokanos or were they almost thrown out of the said "Marcos Region"? It is for you to decide!
"What you see is what you get!"
